Overview
Take a trip to Papeete on your French Polynesia vacation
Papeete is situated on the main and largest island of Tahiti and of French Polynesia thus it is the gateway to all the other Tahitian islands such as Moorea and Bora Bora. It is the centre of government, commerce and industry as well as the capital city.
Papeete is the place to discover Tahitian culture. One can visit the Museum of Tahiti And Her Islands to learn about Polynesian history and culture. The Paul Gauguin Museum also makes for an entertaining cultural visit with its original paintings and reproductions. Perhaps take time to visit the local Tahitian markets with their locally produced crafts or enjoy dining on the waterfront and sample French, Tahitian and Chinese cuisines in an al fresco setting under the stars on a Tahiti vacation.
Inland Tahiti is almost entirely uninhabited as it is so rugged. However, a circle island tour will allow you to see waterfalls, grottos and amazing lookout points. Naturally, if white sandy beaches and relaxation are required, these facilities are readily available along the coast.

South Pacific Franc (XPF)What do the experts say?
The iconic Poisson Cru must be tried while in French Polynesia - it is raw fish marinated in lime juice and coconut milk - so good!
The Food - Polynesian cuisine is based upon using top quality fresh local produce and both savory and sweet dishes often flavored with vanilla or coconut milk. It's surprising to hear many of the perishable ingredients that go into your meals are flown in from various other international countries, and yet, can still taste so fresh and exquisite.
I love the stunning natural beauty, the wonderful people and the opportunity to experience this unique Polynesian culture
