Egypt Weather
Egypt’s location within the North African desert belt, between the Mediterranean and the 23rd parallel north of the Equator, means a low annual rainfall as well as sunshine throughout the year (about 315 days of sunshine). Within Egypt, there is a contrast between the coastal Mediterranean climate and the hot dryness of the interior, however, in these desert areas, there is a sharp contrast between day and night temperatures.
The winter months of January and February can be quite cool, especially in the area of the delta and the Mediterranean. However, the further south one goes, the higher the temperature and the lower the humidity will become.
Deciding when to go to Egypt depends a lot on where one wants to go. Everywhere south of Cairo can be uncomfortably hot in the summer months (June-August), especially Luxor and Aswan, so winter (December-February) is definitely the best time to visit these areas. Summer is also the time when the Mediterranean coast is at its most crowded, but winter in Cairo can get quite cool. March to May is the best time to enjoy the warm days without the crush of bodies on the beaches and the midday heat of high summer.
