Paris Tours, Vacation Packages & Travel Experiences

  • Eiffel Tower - a fantastic photo opportunity on your france vacation.
  • Visit the Mona Lisa at the Louvre - always a highlight on Paris tours.
  • Avenue des Champs-Elysees
  • Basilique du Sacre Coeur de Monmartre
  • Arc de Triomphe - not to be missed when booking your France vacation package.

Paris is known as the “City of Light”. The origin of this name comes from the Middle Ages which was the period of enlightenment. It is also known as the Capital of Fashion, which is no surprise when one thinks of all those famous French designers.  This beautiful and romantic city, in many respects, resembles an outdoor museum with its attractive and elegant architecture and wide boulevards. In fact, a large section of the centre of the city has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage site. Paris is made up of 20 districts called Arrondissements, each one giving a different perspective to the city. The meandering River Seine dissects the city and adds enormously to the character and beauty of travel to Paris.

Two reasons to enjoy the city have to be, one, taking advantage of Paris’s culinary prowess whether it is just sitting at an outside café observing the world go by with a coffee and a croissant or enjoying a meal at one of the vast number of quality restaurants that abound here and two, the excellent shopping opportunities to be found not only in the department stores such as the Gallerie Lafayette to name one, but also in the many boutique shops that are to be found everywhere on Paris tours.

There are many other attractions and sites to explore on a France vacation. For culture buffs, the Louvre Museum would be an excellent starting point. It is one of the largest and most important museums in the world and is housed in the expansive Louvre Palace, situated in the 1st Arrondissement, with over 1 million works of art including the Mona Lisa and the Venus de Milo. The Musee d’Orsay used to be a century old railway station, the Gare d’Orsay and was converted into an art gallery in 1986. When it opened the museum contained some 2300 paintings, 1500 sculptures and 1000 other objects. Most of these works of art came from other museums but over time, the collection has expanded and covers a period from the mid-nineteenth Century. It contains works by many important Impressionist painters such as Degas, Rodin, Monet, Manet, Renoir, Cezanne, van Gogh and others.

Two other museums of note are the Rodin Museum dedicated to the sculptor, Augustus Rodin and the Pompidou Centre devoted to contemporary art and design.

Paris’s principal boulevard is the elegant Champs d’Elysees which cuts through the centre of the city with the iconic Arc de Triomphe located at one end and the Place de La Concorde at the other.  Paris boasts several beautiful parks such as the Bois de Boulogne and the Bois de Vincennes, the two most extensive ones. In the centre of the city are three smaller but charming parks, the Tuileries which border onto the Louvre, the Jardin du Luxembourg on the left bank and the delightful if small Place des Vosges surrounded by lovely houses and cafes, all to be enjoyed on Paris tours. .

Towering over the city is the Eiffel Tower which can be seen from almost anywhere. The tower rises to a height of 300 metres/984 feet and was completed at the end of the Nineteenth Century. Another major landmark visible from most of Paris is the round domed Sacre Coeur Basilica located on a hill in the atmospheric Montmartre district, also well worth a visit on a France vacation with its many street artists and cafes.  Then of course, there is the Gothic style Notre Dame Cathedral located on the River Seine and dating back hundreds of years.

The list of attractions goes on and on but too numerous to mention here. However, time should be allotted to visit at least one of the two major and elegant historical palaces situated just outside the cirty on travel to Paris, Versailles and Fontainebleau, past homes of French royalty.
