The state’s portion of Lake Superior is the largest and deepest and the Mississippi River begins its journey from its headwaters at Lake Itasca. Saint Paul, in east-central Minnesota along the banks of the Mississippi River, is the capital city and is adjacent to its “Twin City,” the populous Minneapolis. Tourism is an important industry, especially in the beautiful Lake region.
